Mission Aviation

Learn to use one of the most effective missionary tools of the last century to transport the love of Christ into the remote corners of the world. Extraordinary conditions require pilots with extraordinary levels of skill, dedication, and discipline. Prairie's Aviation program offers missions-focused training and a team of staff that includes missionaries with invaluable field experience—something not emphasized in other flight programs.

We offer a two-year (six-semester) Associate of Arts in Mission Aviation. For more information on the program, click here.

Prairie is pleased to offer excellent value for your flight-training dollar. We are concerned with providing not only the minimum hours, but rather every single one of your 250 flight hours has a specific learning objective. Prairie’s program exceeds Transport Canada’s requirements by continuing to develop new skills throughout the entire program.

Prairie College Mission Aviation offers training in: Private Pilot License, Commercial Pilot License, Night Rating, Tailwheel Aircraft, Mountain Navigation, Multi-Engine Rating, Single and Multi-Engine Instrument Rating, Flight Instructor Rating, Unimproved Airstrip, and Emergency Maneuvers.

Mission Aviation Fellowship
IAMA (International Association of Missionary Aviation)

Instructing staff includes those who have experience both in North American commercial aviation and in overseas mission aviation. They are readily available to guide and mentor you as you prepare for a career and ministry in aviation. Complete staff and instructor bios can be found here

Aircraft handling skills are learned in traditional training aircraft such as the Cessna 172 and the more challenging Citabrias. As training progresses, the more powerful and faster retractable-geared Cessna 182, the much more powerful and larger retractable Cessna 210 and finally the twin-engined Seneca II are utilized. The addition of a Redbird FMX full-motion simulator (the first in Canada) is a highly utilized piece of equipment that helps acclimatize students to instrumentation and procedures before even leaving the ground. Here is a complete listing of our current equipment:

Citabria 7ECA
Citabria 7GCBC
Cessna 172M (3)
Cessna 182R
Cessna 210L
Piper Seneca II
Redbird FMX Full-Motion Simulator

Prairie’s rural location is ideal for flight training, yet is close to major airports in Calgary and Edmonton to allow for experience in busy air traffic environments. The Canadian Rockies, a short flight to the west, are used to develop crucial mountain-flying skills.

Expanded Opportunities
As a full-featured flight school, Prairie College Mission Aviation offers additional training opportunities outside of the Private and Commercial training and standard ratings. We also offer the Aerobatic Rating and can help with pilot re-certification. For more information contact us at or call 403-443-2349 during office hours.
