Cause of Power Plant Fire Determined

June 11, 2009

On June 1st fire destroyed Prairie’s power plant, which temporarily cut off power, heat and communications to Prairie’s campus and surrounding area. The Fire Marshall’s Office and Prairie's insurance company have both been on the scene since the incident. Both have completed their investigation and independently came to the same conclusion. They believe the fire originated in the northwest office area of the building. Major mechanical failure and major electrical failure were ruled out and all boilers were all ruled out as potential ignition sources. The damage to the boilers was all secondary and due to the fire, with nothing mechanical or electrical as potential suspects in those areas.

The official ruling is that the fire started as a result of “an unknown accidental source” with nothing to suggest that anything suspicious was involved.
