Practical Nurse Diploma

A Two-Year Program

Program Coordinator: Kim Hogarth

Credentials Awarded
Diploma in Ministry from Prairie and a Practical Nurse Diploma from Bow Valley College.

The program combines an accredited biblical/theological foundation from Prairie with accredited practical nurse training provided by Bow Valley College.

Students complete the classroom courses and labs on Prairie’s campus. This makes possible a student experience that includes chapel, ministry opportunities, small groups, sports and other co-curricular activities. The clinical and preceptorship components are completed at various health care facilities.

Integrating the faith-nurturing experience with nurse training requires a consecutive two-year program, with only intermittent short breaks.

After Graduation
This program has an excellent track record of preparing students well. In fact, 100% of graduates from the last five years passed the national examination. Graduates are prepared to provide high-quality nursing care in the areas of medical, surgical, pediatric, maternity, mental health, and geriatric care. Upon successful completion of the Practical Nurse Diploma program and the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE), graduates will be eligible for licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

What students and others are saying

  • “I would gladly take on more students from this institution in the future.” RN, Practicum Preceptor
  • “It’s refreshing to work with students who are not afraid to push themselves.” RN, Practicum Preceptor
  • “I knew I wanted to be in a Bible-centred environment as well as one where I could pursue my passion for nursing. We take it seriously—it’s not just a vocation. The majority of us feel that this is a call specifically to serve God and others.” Breanne, 2nd-year student
  • “It was amazing to attend a Christian college, not only to encourage me in my faith, but to get training that I can use to serve.” Melissa, PN Graduate

International Preceptorship
After completion of all other program requirements students are required to complete two preceptorships. Students may apply for an International Preceptorship to fulfill one of these preceptorships. Learn more by clicking here.
